Ranch & Farm UTV Guide: All 72 Current Machines Compared

Every current side-by-side suited to ranch and farm duty, compared on what working acreage actually demands: payload, cargo bed capacity, towing, seating, and price. All figures come from manufacturer-published specifications.

72 models from 14 manufacturers · Updated July 2026

How this guide works

Every current model tagged for this use case is included — nothing is curated out. “Leaders” are computed from manufacturer-published specifications using these criteria:

  • Cargo bed capacity (manufacturer-rated)
  • Payload capacity (manufacturer-rated)
  • Towing capacity (manufacturer-rated)
  • Seating capacity
  • Factory winch fitment
  • Starting MSRP

MudSpec has no sponsorships, no affiliate links, and no manufacturer relationships. Where a manufacturer does not publish a figure, we say so rather than estimating.

What matters when choosing

Payload is the headline number

Payload — total capacity including occupants and bed load — runs from 450 to just over 2,000 pounds in this group, and bed ratings from 400 to 1,500 pounds. Farm media weight these two numbers above everything else, and nearly every manufacturer here publishes both. Remember payload includes the crew: two 200-pound adults claim 400 pounds before the first feed sack goes in the bed.

Towing: 2,000 pounds is the working floor

Ranch publications converge on roughly 2,000 pounds as the practical minimum for a working ranch — a loaded stock trailer or water tank gets heavy fast. Ratings in this group run from 600 to 4,000 pounds. Keep about 60 percent of a trailer’s load forward of its axle to prevent fishtailing, and treat towing as low-speed work.

Diff lock and low range

Agricultural extension programs call a locking differential close to essential for wet fields and muddy lanes — locking both wheels on an axle can effectively double usable traction — and low range multiplies torque for towing and creeping work. Most machines in this group offer both; each detail page lists what is fitted.

Cab, crew, and fatigue

Rated seating in this group runs from two to six, with belted seats and a roll structure — the core reason working outfits choose a side-by-side over an ATV. Enclosed cabs with heat, offered on upper trims of several machines here, turn winter feeding runs into a commute, and electronic power steering measurably reduces fatigue on multi-hour days.

Diesel and electric options

This group includes gasoline, diesel, and electric machines. Diesel typically returns 20–35 percent better fuel efficiency and shares a fuel supply with the tractors, but untreated diesel gels below roughly 15°F — a real consideration for winter feeding. Electric machines trade range for quiet, low maintenance, and calm operation around livestock.

Reliability — the spec nobody publishes

Reliability tops every farm buyer’s list and is the one thing nobody can rank honestly: no manufacturer or independent body publishes failure-rate or durability data for UTVs. Brand reputations circulate in forums and dealer lore, but that is anecdote, not data — so this guide does not rank reliability, and we would be skeptical of any guide that does.

Warranty is measured in hours, not months

Factory coverage in this group runs from 6 to 36 months, and some manufacturers additionally cap coverage by engine hours — a working machine can hit an hour cap long before the calendar runs out. Hours accumulate fast on a farm, which also makes extended coverage easier to justify here than for recreational use.

Frequently asked questions

How much do ranch and farm UTVs cost in 2026?

Current models in this group start at $7,499 and range up to $51,999 for top trims, across 14 manufacturers.

Do ranch and farm UTVs come with a winch?

16 of the 72 current models include a factory-installed winch as standard equipment. On most others, a winch is available as a factory or dealer accessory.

What engine size is best for ranch and farm UTVs?

Current models in this group range from 327cc to 1498cc. Farm and ranch publications generally call 400–600cc sufficient for chore duty — hauling, feeding, and fence work are torque-and-payload jobs, not speed jobs. Larger engines earn their keep towing heavy implements or covering big acreage.

Is a diesel UTV worth it on a farm?

It depends on fuel logistics and climate. Diesel models typically return 20–35 percent better fuel efficiency and can share the farm’s existing diesel supply, but untreated diesel gels below roughly 15°F and diesel machines generally cost more up front. This group includes diesel, gasoline, and electric machines.

Which ranch UTV is the most reliable?

No manufacturer or independent body publishes failure-rate data for UTVs, so no honest reliability ranking exists — brand reputation is forum anecdote, not published data. What you can compare is factory warranty coverage, which runs from 6 to 36 months in this group.

How is this guide ranked?

It is not editorially ranked. Leaders are computed from manufacturer-published specifications using the disclosed criteria, and the full table includes every qualifying current model, sortable by whichever spec matters to you. MudSpec has no sponsorships or affiliate relationships.
